Back in the swing

Happy New Year!  We had a fabulous first week back despite the cold temperatures.  We are practicing every day for our class play.  Costume suggestions should have come home in the folders last week.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  We will perform for the whole school on January 22 and for our parents on January 23 at 6:30 in the SMS cafe.

We are learning about:

  • comparing and contrasting fiction and non fiction books
  • persuasive writing
  • vowel teams
  • fractions
  • geometric shapes
  • vertices and sides in 2d shapes

Some activities we did:

  • made gingerbread men to represent our characters in the play
  • wrote two persuasive letters; one inviting the Lobsters in to play and the other to Mrs. Ruel and Mr. Fosher about outside recess
  • played with shapes
  • discovered different ways to show 1/2
  • learned our lines and songs
  • practiced magic c letters
The students will keep their spelling lists for the next two weeks and the test will be next Friday the 24.  This will allow us extra time in class to get to know these tricky patterns.

Some IXL math skills to practice this week and next are:
