Math outside in February

How do you celebrate a 70 degree day in February?  By holding Math workshop outside!  We practiced writing numbers with sidewalk chalk, created number sentences with partners, subitized with dominoes and added teen numbers to decide how many playground activities we did.  What a fun way to celebrate the warm day and all things math!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Today we celebrated Chinese New Year in the Seal class.  We made fire breathing dragons, decorated dragon masks and dressed up in traditional Chinese silk suits!

We had our first Science discussion circle today.  We learned how to share our thinking, listen to others and grow together as scientists.  We experimented with force and motion using different types of balls, toy cars, puddy, wooden blocks and marbles.

Next week is read across America week at SMS.  Each day we will have a special theme.

Monday: Fox in Socks: wear crazy socks and show them off
Tuesday: Cat in the Hat: wear your favorite hat
Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday: wear mismatch clothes
Thursday: Theodore Geisel Day: dress up as your favorite book character
Friday: Curl up and Read Day: bring a stuffed animal and wear comfy clothes
