First Week of October

In our classroom we are:

  • unfreezing the characters in our writing
  • using tally marks to create a graph
  • creating and solving number stories
  • filling up our reader's backpack with strategies we can use
  • observing and comparing caterpillars and moth larve
  • wondering about the acorns in the school yard and how they may change
  • adding soil to the first grade garden that we made in our compost bin
  • using our social smarts
  • building our reading stamina
  • practicing math fact fluency by playing around the world



 Important October Dates

  • Christopher Columbus Sail-a-thon on Friday, October 10th.  Please return your boats on this date.
  • No school on Monday, October 13th - Columbus Day
  • Field Trip to the Scamman Farm Corn Maze is Friday, October 16th.  A permission slip will be sent home on Monday with more details.  All chaperones are welcome.  There will be a fee of $5.00.
  • Picture Retakes are Tuesday, October 28th.
  • Early Release on October 29th- Dismissal at 12:50 Parent teacher conferences
  • Fall Festival - Friday, October 31st.  We will need some parent volunteers!  If you would like to join us, let me know.  Stay tuned for more details..
  • Early Release on November 7th- Dismissal at 12:50 Parent teacher conferences

We touched the very slimy banana peel and apple slices.  The only part of the peach left was the seed!
